Here is what you need to know before you arrive
Cancun airport transportation costs have gone through the roof over the last three years! As a very frequent traveler, and vacation rental owner in Cancun, I have noticed that costs are up 40% over the last 4 years! Just in the last year costs are up 10%. Here are a few tips to make sure you are getting the best deal.
Book in Advance!
If you wait until you get to the airport you will pay the highest prices, hands down. Whether you are renting a car or taking private transportation, there are people waiting to take advantage of you.
For example, a last-minute, one-way ride from the airport to the hotel zone will cost you $55 US dollars.
Private Car
There are many options to book a private shuttle or car (meaning only you and your guests) in advance. Be sure to book a roundtrip to get the best discount. The average cost of this service from the airport to the Hotel Zone is $85 US dollars.
Shared Shuttle
If you aren’t in a rush and would like to save a little money, you can opt for a shuttle with other passengers. This will cost about $12 per person, one way.
Uber
Uber is struggling with taking off in Cancun. Technically its legal in some areas, but not considered very safe yet. There have been reports of Taxi drivers blocking the entry points for Ubers and harassing customers. For now its more reliable to book cars.
Car Rental
I use Alamo Rental car service since it’s the fastest to get in and out and very reliable. If you book on your phone you will receive at 50% discount!
In and Around Cancun
If you haven’t rented a car, taxis are the best way to get around Cancun. Be aware the prices are higher if you are going into the Hotel Zone. For example, leaving the Hotel Zone is not as expensive and going to it.
